The Safety Nightbus Scheme that was launched last year will be running once again!! The Nightbus will depart from outside the Students’ Union building (Dixon Road), On the hour – And every night on the first week back!!

The Safety Nightbus aims to bridge the gap between walking home and having to pay a lot for taxis. It‘s a FREE method of transport, run by the Students’ Union created to offer you a safer option when attending the Union or library during late hours. The Nightbus covers New Cross, Brockley and Macmillan Student Villiage. (If you live just outside of these you could use the service at  the Supervisors discretion.)

The London Center for Personal Safety is working in partnership with the London Feminist Network to offer young women members the unique opportunity to learn self-defence skills. The London Center for Personal Safety (LCPS) is committed to making self-defence training accessible to all women, and this training is FREE to all participants. Courses will start in January 2010.

The program is funded by the City Bridge, and is open to self defining women 14- 21 years old. The training will provide an opportunity to learn and practice prevention, boundary setting, and physical self-defence skills in simulated scenarios with a padded attacker. Participants learn how to handle situations young women are likely to face. This training is adaptable to a wide range of fitness levels. You need not be in top physical shape to take the training – most people are not. The training is delivered over a day-intensive module.

Places will be allocated on a ‘first come first served’ basis. To reserve a place on upcoming training and for information about the training, contact: lcps@lcps.demon.co.uk

Jennifer Jones has notified us of her resignation from her position of Campaigns and Communications Officer and Trustee of Goldsmiths Students’ Union.

Jennifer was elected to be the Campaigns and Communications Officer in 2007 and re-elected to the post in 2008.  She was recently suspended pending an investigation into the findings of an independent report into complaints regarding Goldsmiths Students’ Union.

The Trustee Board of Goldsmiths Students’ Union will be meeting next week to give further consideration to the findings of the independent report, to agree appropriate steps regarding its recommendations and discuss whether or not to hold a by-election for the vacant sabbatical position.

We will keep you informed of developments as they happen.
